fantastic lakes and where to find them

After a harrowing multi day drive from Colorado, I can safely say the Great Lakes region knocked my socks off! And not only bc I finally did my first round of laundry in two weeks…

I got in a lovely quick visit with the above cuties, my aunt Kathleen and her partner Mitch, in Milwaukee for Memorial Day weekend. We cooked and caught up and had a nice stroll down to the Lake Michigan waterfront on Memorial Day itself. I was bested by a crossword puzzle and we ate delicious potato salad, altogether a perfect start to the summer!

The next morning I took a picturesque sunrise ferry across to Muskegon, MI. And oh, my. Michigan is breathtaking.

I don’t have a ton of photos from Michigan but I’ve become obsessed with this state. It was oh so green and lush. It was full of bugs and I didn’t even mind it. I’ve never had an experience camping where I felt so surrounded by living creatures and I loved it even though I was legitimately afraid. I saw river otters as I did stand up paddle all afternoon. It was amazing.

Just ask my increasingly dirty sandals.
